Anyone who has known me very long knows I love the color gold. It’s only second to my most favorite color on earth….Fuchsia Pink. I think it adds a touch of instant glamor to almost anything. Whether it’s an outfit, home decor, makeup or what have you, it instantly turns up the volume. I mean what would you expect from someone who has 10+ pairs of gold shoes?
Even though many people now seem to regard the 80′s as one of the tackiest decades ever, filled with drugs, excess, and no sense of moral compass, I think it was one of the greatest eras for fashion. I’ve always thought that people who put a little “extra” in their clothing choice looked better. Even if it’s something totally off and different, it can really make an outfit. Think of a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt or tank top accessorized with a piece of statement jewelry or a cute and crazy scarf. Even the guy who I saw at the gym the other night with the bubblegum pink Chuck Taylor’s ( I know people were laughing at him, and I even saw someone try and sneakily take a picture of him). When people take the extra effort to wear something that other’s may think is too much, or maybe not fashionable at all, I think it really sets them apart and makes them interesting. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I like sewing so much. It gives me the opportunity to add my own design to things, to have something that others don’t have. It feels good to hear “Ooh Where did you get that?”, and to be able to say, “I made it.” Now, just being tacky, dirty or inappropriate is another thing… you get no points for originality there.
Let the former and not the latter be you.Well until next time good people!
