This dress was inspired by a dress my mother wore to a house party circa 1985-86.
I don’t actually remember the party that she went to, (Let’s not reveal my real age here, but just say I was probably not old enough to have real memories at the time anyway) but I always remember the picture and how glamorous she looked. If I ever can get a hold of the actual picture, I’ll post it for sure. Her dress was actually an emerald green (hence part of the name of my blog) but in making the dress, i didn’t want to copy her completely. Too bad she didn’t save the dress for me , but as she tells me now, you can’t save everything.
I picked up the pattern for 25 cents at a random thrift store while on my lunch break at work. And yes, I do believe that I used my card for this small purchase When I saw it, I immediately thought about that picture, and had to get it. Some of these little thrift stores have amazing vintage style (and even some newer patterns) for next to nothing.
This wasn’t a difficult dress to construct, but sometimes I tend to start hurrying through things and make a few mistakes….and I did here. All in all though, I am very happy with the way it came out.
Thanks for reading my first post, there will definitely be more to come.
